From a social feed to a personal stylist.

Redesigned a conceptual personal-style app from a social inspiration feed into an AI stylist that builds outfits from the clothes you already own, solving for personalised styling with the least possible friction.

GAIA, the final brand and a glimpse of the high-fidelity prototype, after two rounds of user testing and an AI-styling iteration.

Overview

GAIA is a personal-style app I designed over twelve weeks, first as my UX bootcamp capstone and then through a short iteration once I realised where it really needed to go. The brief was open, find a human-centred problem worth designing for, and the one I kept circling back to was my own. I love clothes, and I wanted to know whether a tool could help someone dress more from what they already owned and a little less from whatever was being sold to them that week.

The interesting part of this project is not the final screens, it is the turn in the middle. Coming from a background in social media marketing, I set out to build a better place to find style inspiration, a feed, and my research seemed to back me up. Presenting the first version, I realised I had built the wrong thing, and that I had been designing for the app I wanted to exist. Most of this case study is about that turn, and what I did with it.

Outcome

GAIA went from a social inspiration feed to an AI stylist that builds outfits from the clothes you already own, and suggests the few new pieces that would complete them.

The full case study is still a work in progress.
